PM Modi's visit to Bangladesh will be very memorable: Jaishankar

S. Jaishankar reached Bangladesh

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh later this month will be very memorable. At the same time, they rightly termed the strategic relationship of the two countries as '360 degree partnership'. Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning to prepare for PM Modi's visit. PM will participate in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence and 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He discussed extensively with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin on ways to take forward bilateral relations. He said that Bangladesh is at the heart of India's 'neighbor first' policy and continues to be relevant to the country's 'Act East Policy'. In a joint press conference with Momin after the talks, he said that we are working on preparing for PM Modi's visit. We hope it will be very memorable. This will be PM Modi's first foreign trip after the Corona epidemic. We all remember his last visit which proved to be very transformative in our relationship.

PM Modi will arrive in Dhaka on a two-day visit on 26 March and will attend a number of events. The External Affairs Minister said that this is a very special year for the people of Bangladesh. This year marks the completion of 50 years of Bangladesh's independence, while the bilateral relations of the two countries are also being celebrated for 50 years. May all your dreams come true and he can assure that India will always stand with him as a trusted friend. Our relationship is very broad and the level of mutual spontaneity in it is very high. It is truly a 360 degree partnership.

He said that India is giving the Corona vaccine prepared here to many countries around the world, but the maximum vaccine has been given to Bangladesh. 90 million vaccines have been given to this neighboring country. On the killings on the border, he said that what you are calling border killings is very much within the border of India. Border crime is the reason behind this. Both countries want a crime-free border. On the Teesta water agreement, he said that progress is being made in the negotiations between the two countries. The External Affairs Minister said that with Momin we had extensive discussions on bilateral relations. We are working on all issues of common interest including security, business, transport and connectivity, culture, people-to-people contact.
